Background: |
The Mid-South STC Chapter Scholarship began in 2000. It is wholly funded by the Mid-South Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC). |
Purpose: |
The scholarship is intended to further the education of individuals who are full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate students or part-time graduate students in the Professional Writing program in the Department of English at the University of Memphis. |
Eligibility: |
Students, either graduate or undergraduate, who are working towards a degree in professional writing, are eligible to apply. They must have at least one full year of academic work remaining and must plan to be full-time students (part-time is okay for graduate students). Moreover, eligible students should have completed at least one professional writing course, should be enrolled in at least one professional writing course for Fall 2007, and should have declared a major in professional writing. Students who will be applying for admission to a graduate program in professional writing beginning Fall 2007 are also encouraged to apply.
Students who win the scholarship are required to join the STC Mid-South chapter before the award will be disbursed. |
Awards: |
One award of $1,000 will be granted toward school tuition and expenses to either an eligible undergraduate or graduate student. If the committee fails to choose between two excellent students, the award may be equally divided between them. Awards are expected to cover a full academic year (September to June). |
Deadline: |
Applications must be received by May 1, 2007.

Application
Evaluation: |
A committee set by the local STC chapter will evaluate each application with respect to potential future contribution to the field of technical communication. Financial need is not a factor. |
Exclusions: |
Members of the Mid-South STC board are excluded from consideration for the scholarship. |
Announcement of Recipients: |
The scholarship winner will be notified in May 2007. |
